Butera joined Louis Prima and Keely Smith in Las Vegas in 1954, which was the beginning of his 21-year run as Prima's band leader, saxophonist, musical arranger and comic foil. Together they recorded several albums, starred in several movies and packed out showrooms and lounges.

He has appeared at the Sahara with Louis Prima and Keely Smith.
